TEC Yogyakarta has successfully arranged the first online exchange program between Madrasah Mu’allimin Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (Indonesia) and Taipei Municipal Chengyuan High School (Taiwan) on November 27, 2023 at 09.20-10.00 AM. The agenda was opened by the moderator and then continued by showing school photos shared by teacher Sharon as a brief introduction of Chengyuan to the Indonesian students. The school director of Chengyuan, Mr. Chi Wei Chen delivered very brief remarks representing the Taiwanese school and Mr. Aly Aulia also delivered a brief opening remark representing the Indonesian school. Before the presentations began, all the students greeted each other and showed how excited they were to see new friends.
The first presentation was delivered by the students of Taipei Municipal Chengyuan High School. They presented interesting topics regarding green design, daily energy saving, indoor environment, and water resources. As junior high students, they have shown a great interest in technology and environmental sustainability issues. It was such a great topic to be discussed and grew new knowledge for the Indonesian students.
In the second presentation part, a fantastic presentation was delivered by the students of Madrasah Mu’allimin Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. They presented the topics of Indonesian cuisine, Indonesian culture and taboo and also Indonesian clothing. After the presentation session, the agenda continued by a question and answer session. In this session, the students asked questions regarding the topics. One student of Mu’allimin threw a question about how green energy impacts our daily life and he was very interested to know whether a place such as Taipei Public Library the Beitou Branch could be built in Indonesia. A student of Chengyuan also showed a great interest in Indonesian culture and asked some questions about the diversity in Indonesia.
The first online exchange program was closed by taking a group photo session. Sharon, the teacher of Chengyuan, was very impressed with the English ability of the students from Mu’allimin and said that she would love to have this kind of agenda again in the future. In addition, since this program is a succesful for both schools, they have agreed to sign an MoU for future agendas and Mu’allimin is planning to visit Chengyuan High school in March 2024.
